Inspection (1.8L)
- Inspect components for damage. Install oil pump gears in front cover. Using feeler gauge, measure gear-to-front cover clearance between tip of teeth on each gear and front cover.
- Place straightedge across front cover above gears. Using feeler gauge, check gear side clearance between straightedge and both oil pump gears.
- Check for ridge on oil pump cover in gear operating area. Ensure relief plunger slides freely in bore. Ensure spring free length is 1.73" (44.0 mm) for Eclipse and 1.85" (47.0 mm) for all others. Replace components if not within specification. See OIL PUMP SPECIFICATIONS (1.8L) table.
