Steering Wheel Angular Velocity Sensor: Removal
- Ensure front wheels face straight ahead. Turn ignition off. Disconnect negative battery cable. Insulate negative battery cable to prevent accidental grounding. Remove nuts from back side of air bag module. Using a screwdriver, carefully pry clockspring connector from back of air bag module. See Fig 1.
- Remove air bag module from vehicle. Place air bag module on a flat surface with pad cover facing up.
- Mark steering wheel and shaft for reassembly reference. Using a steering wheel puller, remove steering wheel from vehicle. Remove steering column covers.
- Disconnect and remove clockspring. Disconnect steering wheel angular velocity sensor wiring connectors. Remove column switch (if necessary). Remove sensor from steering column. See Fig 2.
NOTE:
Steering wheel angular velocity sensor is an electronic unit using photo-couplers. Clean hands and working environment are recommended to avoid contaminating component.
