Piston Rings

  1. Using inverted piston, push new piston ring to bottom of cylinder bore. Measure piston ring end gap, using a feeler gauge. Repeat for each ring. See PISTONS, PINS & RINGS  table under ENGINE SPECIFICATIONS.
  2. Clean piston ring grooves thoroughly. Install piston rings with identification mark toward top of piston. DO NOT use ring expander to install oil ring side rails. Measure piston ring side clearance between ring and ring land.
  3. If ring lands are excessively worn, replace piston. See PISTONS, PINS & RINGS  table under ENGINE SPECIFICATIONS. Align piston ring end gaps properly on piston. See Fig 1.
