Turbocharger Overhaul: Disassembly

  1. Loosen coupling and separate turbine housing from cartridge assembly and compressor cover. See Figure.
  2. Place compressor cover on solid surface, with turbine facing up. Cover snap ring with finger (prevent spring force from ejecting it) and remove.
  3. Hold turbine stationary with one hand and tap compressor cover with a plastic mallet to separate components. Some resistance will be felt due to "O" ring inside cartridge assembly.
