Removal (1.8L Eclipse)

Disconnect power steering hose clamp at front engine mount, near timing belt cover. Place wooden block between jack and oil pan. Raise engine slightly. Remove engine mount assembly near timing belt cover.
Remove all drive belts and tensioner pulley bracket. See Fig 3. Remove power steering, water pump and damper pulleys. Remove adapter and crankshaft pulley.
CAUTION: DO NOT rotate crankshaft counterclockwise (as viewed from timing belt end of engine). Ensure timing marks are aligned. Mark direction of rotation of all timing belts.
Remove upper and lower timing belt covers and gaskets. Remove access cover. Remove crankshaft sprocket "A" bolt and washer. Rotate crankshaft clockwise (as viewed from timing belt of engine) and align timing mark on camshaft sprocket with timing mark on rear upper timing belt cover. See Fig 4.

If timing belts are to be reused, place mark on timing belts to indicate direction of belt rotation for reassembly reference. Loosen timing belt tensioner bolt for timing belt "A". Move tensioner toward water pump and tighten tensioner bolt. Remove timing belt.
Remove timing belt tensioner, tensioner spacer and tensioner spring. See Fig 3. Remove camshaft sprocket. Remove plug from side of cylinder block and install a .31" (8.0 mm) diameter Phillips screwdriver to hold left silent shaft. See Fig 5.

Remove oil pump sprocket retaining nut and remove sprocket. Remove crankshaft sprocket "A" and flange. Remove timing belt tensioner "B". If timing belt "B" is to be reused, mark direction of timing belt rotation for reassembly reference. Remove timing belt "B".
Remove right silent shaft sprocket and spacer. Before removing crankshaft sprocket "B", note direction of sprocket installation. Remove key from crankshaft. Remove engine support bracket. Remove rear timing belt covers.
