Valve Clearance Adjustment: 1.5L

Ensure cylinder head bolts are properly tightened prior to adjusting valve clearance. Jet valve clearance (Precis only) should be adjusted prior to adjusting intake valves. Ensure intake valve adjusting screw is backed off at least 2 turns prior to adjusting jet valve.
With engine at normal operating temperature, remove spark plugs and rocker cover. Rotate engine clockwise and align timing mark on crankshaft pulley with that on timing belt cover. Ensure No. 1 piston is at TDC and valves are free.
CAUTION: Jet valve spring is comparatively weak and must not be forced in when making adjustment.
Ensure adjusting screw is backed off at least 2 turns on intake valves on models with jet valves before adjusting jet valve. Adjust jet valves (if equipped) and intake valves on cylinders No. 1 and 2 and exhaust valves on cylinders No. 1 and 3 to specification. See VALVE CLEARANCE SPECIFICATIONS table.
Rotate crankshaft clockwise 360 degrees to position No. 4 cylinder at TDC of compression stroke. Adjust jet valves (if equipped) and intake valves on cylinders No. 3 and 4 and exhaust valves on cylinders No. 2 and 4. Install rocker cover.
