Removal (1.6L)

  1. Fuel pressure must be released. To release fuel pressure, disconnect fuel pump connector. Fuel pump connector is located under rear seat cushion.
  2. With fuel pump connector disconnected, start engine and allow to idle until it stops. Turn ignition off. Disconnect negative battery terminal and reconnect fuel pump connector. Drain cooling system.
  3. Remove air intake hose from throttle body. Remove support brace, accelerator cable, vacuum hoses and electrical connections at throttle body. Disconnect necessary electrical connections from intake manifold and injectors.
  4. Disconnect coolant hoses, electrical connections and vacuum hoses. Remove fuel supply and return lines from delivery pipe. Remove delivery pipe bolts and remove delivery pipe with fuel injectors and pressure regulator. DO NOT  allow fuel injector to fall from delivery pipe during removal.
  5. Remove tension rod bracket. Remove support brace from below intake manifold and remove intake manifold. See Figure.
