Removal (Mirage 1.6L)

  1. To release fuel pressure, disconnect fuel pump connector. Fuel pump connector is located under rear seat cushion.
  2. With fuel pump connector disconnected, start engine and allow to idle until it stops. Turn ignition off. Disconnect negative battery terminal and reconnect fuel pump connector. Drain cooling system.
  3. Remove radiator, accelerator cable and air intake hose, breather hose, PCV hose and air cleaner assembly. On turbo models, disconnect air intake tubing at turbo.
  4. On all models, disconnect necessary coolant hoses, electrical connections, vacuum hoses and fuel lines. Remove center cover and spark plug wires. Remove wiring harness.
  5. Remove timing belt. See TIMING BELT  under CAMSHAFT. Remove rocker cover and semi-circular packing at rear of cover.
  6. On turbo models, remove heat shield from exhaust manifold. Disconnect oil lines and coolant lines at turbo.
  7. On all models, disconnect exhaust pipe at manifold. Disconnect tension rod at rear of intake manifold. Using Wrench (MD998051), loosen head bolts in proper sequence using 2 steps. See Fig 1. Remove cylinder head and gasket.
