Valve Clearance Adjustments

  1. Intake and exhaust valves are equipped with hydraulic valve adjusters and require no adjustment. Jet valve clearance; however, must be adjusted. Ensure head bolts are properly tightened before adjusting jet valves.
  2. Ensure engine is at normal operating temperature. Rotate crankshaft clockwise to position cylinder No. 1 on TDC of compression stroke. Adjust jet valves on cylinders No. 1 and 2.
  3. Rotate crankshaft 360 degrees to position cylinder No. 4 on TDC of compression stroke. Adjust jet valves on cylinders No. 3 and 4. See VALVE CLEARANCE SPECIFICATIONS table.
LIFTER APPLICATION

2.0L: Pickup (1) Hydraulic & Mechanical
(1) Intake and exhaust valves have hydraulic lifters. Jet valves have mechanical lifters.
