Removal (2.4L)

  1. Remove power steering pump pulley (if equipped). Remove all drive belts and crankshaft pulley. Remove upper timing belt cover and gasket. Remove timing belt lower cover and gasket, noting bolt length and location.
  2. Remove crankshaft sprocket bolt access cover. Remove crankshaft sprocket bolt and washer. Rotate engine clockwise to align timing mark on camshaft sprocket with mark on cylinder head. Loosen timing belt tensioner adjustment bolt and move tensioner toward water pump.
  3. Tighten bolt to secure tensioner. Remove front timing belt. Remove camshaft sprocket. Remove oil pump sprocket access plug from cylinder block. Insert 8 mm Phillips screwdriver to block left silent shaft. Remove oil pump sprocket nut to remove sprocket.
  4. Remove front crankshaft sprocket and flange. Remove rear timing belt tensioner assembly. Remove rear timing belt. Remove right silent shaft sprocket with spacer. Remove rear crankshaft sprocket with key and inner cover.
