Removal (2.0L DOHC)

  1. Remove breather hose, PCV valve and throttle cable bracket. Remove valve cover shield and spark plug wires. Remove valve cover and upper front timing belt cover. Remove timing belt. See TIMING BELT & SPROCKETS.
  2. Remove throttle body bracket and crank angle sensor. Secure exhaust camshaft at hex with wrench and remove sprocket bolt and sprocket. Repeat procedure for intake cam. Loosen front camshaft bearing cap bolts uniformly in 3 steps.
  3. Repeat procedure for remaining camshaft bearing cap bolts, removing rear bearing caps last. Remove camshaft bearing caps. If necessary, tap bearing cap with plastic hammer to break loose. Remove intake and exhaust camshaft.
