Valve Seats

  1. Check valve seat for evidence of overheating or improper contact with valve face. Replace or rework seat, as necessary. If reworking seat, check valve guide first. Replace guide as required. Recondition valve seat with grinder or cutter to specified contact width.
  2. Remove valve seat ring by thinning down with a cutter, then machine seat bore to outside diameter and height of oversize valve seat ring. See VALVE SEAT OVERSIZES  table for seat hole diameter.
NOTE: DO NOT  install valve seat ring at room temperature. This will damage seat hole and prevent seat from fitting tightly.
  3. Cool valve seat ring and press seat into cylinder head. After installing valve seat ring, machine to specification. After reworking seat, valve and valve seat should be lapped with compound.
