Silent Shafts & Bearings: Removal

  1. Remove timing belts and sprockets as previously described. Remove oil filter and oil pan. Remove oil pump pick-up screen and gasket. Remove oil pressure relief valve plunger plug and gasket. Remove oil pressure relief valve and spring from oil filter bracket.
  2. Remove 4 bracket mounting bolts. Remove oil filter bracket and gasket. Remove plug from oil pump portion of front cover. Remove plug from left side of block and insert screwdriver at least 2.4" (60.0 mm). Remove oil pump driven gear and left silent shaft retaining bolt.
  3. Remove front cover mounting bolts and front cover. Remove left and right silent shafts from block. Check silent shaft bearing journals for wear and seizure. Check silent shaft bearings.
  4. Using Bearing Removers (MD998371-01 and MIT304204), remove right front silent shaft bearing. Using Adapter (MD998374-01), on left side only, and Bearing Removers (MD998372-01 and MIT304204), remove rear silent shaft bearings.
