Reassembly & Installation

  1. Coat all components with new oil. Reassemble rocker arms and shafts. Ensure components are installed in original location and position.
  2. Install camshaft on cylinder head. Install auto-lash adjuster and holder in original location on rocker arm assembly. Install rocker arm assembly to cylinder head. Install camshaft bearing caps. tighten bolts to specifications.
  3. Install camshaft sprocket and distributor drive gear. Ensure timing marks on gear and chain are properly aligned. See Figure. Tighten bolts to specification. Adjust jet valve clearance. See VALVE CLEARANCE ADJUSTMENT in this article.
  4. Apply sealant to semi-circular packing and cylinder head and install packing. To complete installation, reverse removal procedure. Tighten all bolts/nuts to specifications.
NOTE: If front and rear bearing cap bolts are left inserted, rocker shafts can be removed as an assembly.
