Disassembly & Inspection

Match mark components. Disassemble rocker arms and shaft using Fig 1. Inspect rocker arm and shaft for damage or flaking. Measure rocker arm I.D. and rocker arm O.D. to determine oil clearance. Replace components if not within specifications. See ROCKER ARM & SHAFT SPECIFICATIONS table in this article.
Check camshaft journals, fuel pump drive cam and distributor drive gear for wear or damage. Replace if necessary. Measure camshaft journal O.D. and lobe height. Replace camshaft if not within specification. See CAMSHAFT table at end of this article.

CAUTION: Ensure shaft with notch (located on front of shaft) is installed on the intake valve side and the mating marks are aligned. See Figure.
