Cylinder Head & Manifolds: Installation

  1. Clean mating surfaces and use a new cylinder head gasket. Apply sealer to timing chain cover-to-block joint. DO NOT  apply sealant to head gasket. Install gasket with identification mark toward cylinder head. Install cylinder head. To prevent damage to gasket, mating surfaces and alignment dowels, avoid sliding cylinder head.
  2. Tighten cylinder head bolts in sequence, in 2 steps and to specifications. See Figure. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  table.
  3. Install camshaft sprocket and distributor drive gear. Ensure timing marks are aligned. See Figure. Tighten camshaft bolt to specifications. Apply sealant to semi-circular packing and cylinder head and install packing. To complete installation, reverse removal procedure. Tighten bolts/nuts to specifications.
