Counterbalance Drive Chain: Removal

  1. Drain coolant and engine oil. Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove water pump pulley, and water pump. Remove oil pan. See OIL PAN under PISTONS, PINS & RINGS in this article.
  2. Remove crankshaft pulley, timing chain case and gaskets. Remove chain guides "A", "B", and "C", sprocket locking bolts, and crankshaft sprocket. Mark installed position of sprockets for installation reference. Remove both counterbalance shaft sprockets, oil pump sprocket and drive chain as an assembly. See Fig 1.
