Valve Guides Service
- Ensure valve stem diameter is within specification and check valve stem clearance. If clearance exceeds service limits, replace valve guide with next oversize. See VALVE GUIDE OVERSIZES table.
- Use a valve guide remover to drive out each guide toward bottom of cylinder head. Ream guide bore in cylinder head to specified size. See VALVE GUIDE OVERSIZES table.
- Using Valve Guide Installer (MD998301), press new guides into cylinder head from top. See Fig 1
. Use of special tool makes it possible to install guide to predetermined height.CAUTION: Do not use standard size valve guide for replacement. Be sure to install valve guide at room temperature.
- Check guide clearance with new valve and ream as necessary.
