Removal (1.5L)
- Drain cooling system and disconnect upper radiator hose. Remove breather hose and air cleaner. Remove vacuum hose, fuel hose and coolant hose. Label and remove spark plug wires. Remove distributor and carburetor. Remove intake manifold bolts. Remove intake manifold.
- Remove heat shield and exhaust manifold bolts. Remove exhaust manifold. Remove upper left engine mount. Remove timing belt cover. Move timing belt tensioner toward water pump and secure. Remove timing belt from camshaft sprocket. Ensure belt stays on crankshaft sprocket. Remove rocker arm cover.
- Loosen cylinder head bolts using Head Bolt Wrench (09221-11000), in REVERSE of tightening sequence. See Figure . Loosen head bolts in 2 or 3 steps to prevent cylinder head warpage. Remove bolts and cylinder head.
