Rocker Shaft Assembly & Camshaft: Removal
- Remove upper timing belt and rocker shaft covers. Loosen camshaft sprocket bolt until it can be turned by hand. Rotate crankshaft until No. 1 cylinder is at TDC of compression stroke. Camshaft timing mark should be aligned with the pointer on cylinder head. See Fig 1.
- Remove camshaft sprocket bolt. Remove camshaft sprocket and timing belt from camshaft. Place sprocket onto holder on lower timing belt cover. Remove camshaft bearing cap bolts.
- On 2.0L and 2.4L engines, install Auto-Lash Adjuster Holder (MD998443) onto rocker arms to make sure adjusters do not fall out. Remove rocker arms, shafts and bearing caps as an assembly. Remove rocker arms, springs and caps from shafts. Keep rocker arms and adjusters in order for reassembly reference. Remove camshaft from cylinder head.
