Engine - Colt Vista: Removal
- Disconnect battery cables. Remove hood and air cleaner. Remove battery, battery tray and battery tray mounting bracket. Unplug oil pressure connectors to engine and power steering pump. unplug harness connector for alternator. Disconnect high tension cable from ignition coil. Disconnect wiring to distributor. Disconnect engine ground from firewall.
- Remove windshield washer tank. Disconnect vacuum hose from brake booster. Disconnect all other vacuum hoses. Drain coolant and remove reservoir tank. Disconnect upper and lower radiator hoses at engine and remove radiator. Disconnect heater hoses. Disconnect accelerator cable and speed control cable (if equipped) from carburetor. Disconnect speedometer cable.
- Discharge A/C system. Disconnect hoses at compressor and plug openings to prevent contamination. Disconnect power steering hose at pump. Disconnect fuel return hose from carburetor. Disconnect main fuel hose from filter. Disconnect shift cables from transaxle case.
- Raise vehicle and remove cover and lower plate. Drain transaxle and transfer case oil (if equipped). Disconnect exhaust pipe from manifold. On 4WD models, disconnect drive shaft from transfer case.
- Remove clutch release cylinder and disconnect hydraulic clutch piping. Disconnect driveshafts from transaxle case and cover holes in case to prevent contamination. Remove transfer case extension stopper bracket (if equipped).NOTE: Remove 2 top bolts for transfer case extension stopper bracket (if equipped) from engine compartment.
- Lower vehicle and remove nuts for bolt coupling the engine mounting bracket-to-body. DO NOT remove coupling bolt. Remove select control valves from transaxle insulator bracket. Remove nut for transaxle mounting insulator bolt. DO NOT remove coupling bolt. Remove front roll insulator installation nut. Remove rear insulator-to-engine coupling nut.
- Remove radiator grille and bridge panel. Remove A/C condenser. Raise engine until weight is removed from mounts. Remove mounting bolts. Ensure all cables, hoses and harnesses are disconnected from engine. Move engine assembly forward until extension housing side of transfer case (if equipped) does not contact floor panel. Remove engine/transaxle assembly from vehicle.
