Engine - CORDIA, GALANT, TREDIA: Removal

  1. On fuel injected models, start engine and disconnect the electric fuel pump connector. Allow engine to run out of fuel. Turn ignition off. On all models, disconnect battery. Remove battery and battery tray. Drain engine and transaxle oil and radiator coolant. Remove hood and air cleaner assembly. Unplug inhibitor switch and pulse generator connector. Disconnect brake booster vacuum hose. Disconnect hose from canister and purge control valve.
  2. Disconnect ground wire from right inner fender panel. Unplug front harness-to-engine harness connector. Discharge A/C system (if equipped). Drain power steering fluid. Remove electronic controlled suspension compressor and reserve tank assembly (if equipped). Disconnect transaxle control cable. Unplug alternator harness and oil pressure gauge connectors. Label and disconnect transaxle oil cooler hoses.
  3. Unplug oxygen sensor connector. Disconnect ignition coil harnesses. Unplug engine harness-to-control harness. Disconnect coolant temperature switch. Disconnect throttle position sensor, idling control actuator and motor position sensor. Unplug injector connector from intake manifold. Remove harness protector bolt from surge tank.
  4. Disconnect accelerator cable from actuator link. Disconnect fuel return hose and high pressure hose at manifold. Disconnect upper and lower radiator hoses. Disconnect heater hoses. Disconnect speedometer cable. Disconnect and plug A/C hoses at compressor. Disconnect power steering hoses at pump.
  5. Raise and support vehicle. Disconnect exhaust pipe from the manifold. Support exhaust pipe with wire. On Galant models, remove knuckle from lower control arm ball joint using Remover (MB990778-01). Remove tie rod end from knuckle using Remover (MB990635-01). On all models, remove drive axles from transaxle case and cap holes in transaxle case to prevent contamination. Lower vehicle.
  6. Connect engine hoist and remove slack from sling. Remove engine mount bracket-to-body nut. DO NOT  remove bolt. Remove front roll stopper bracket upper nut. Remove rear roll stopper bracket upper nut. Remove cover from right inner fender panel. Remove transaxle mounting bracket bolts. Remove transaxle mounting insulator-to-bracket bolts. Remove transaxle mounting bracket.
  7. Lift engine slightly and remove engine mounting bracket and roll stopper bolts. Ensure all hoses, cables and wiring are disconnected from the engine. Remove engine while tilting transaxle down.
