Valve Guide Servicing

  1. Ensure valve stem is to specification and check valve stem clearance. If clearance exceeds service limits listed in table, replace valve guide with next oversize.

  2. Using a Valve Guide Remover/Installer (MD998115), drive out each guide toward the combustion chamber side. Machine the guide bore in the cylinder head to the outside diameter of the guide being installed. See Fig 1.
  3. To install, drive new guides in from top of head, using Remover/Installer (MD998115) with adapter, to ensure guide is installed to predetermined height. Guide should protrude.591" (15 mm) above head surface when properly installed. Check guide I.D. and ream as necessary.
