Cylinder Head & Manifolds: Installation

Clean mating surfaces and use a new cylinder head gasket. Apply sealer to timing chain cover-to-block joint. DO NOT apply sealant to head gasket. Install gasket with identification mark toward cylinder head. Install cylinder head. To prevent damage to gasket, mating surfaces and alignment dowels, avoid sliding cylinder head.
Tighten cylinder head bolts to 1/2 of specification in sequence. See Fig 1 . Repeat procedure, tightening bolts to specification. DO NOT overtighten cylinder head-to-timing chain cover bolts. Align timing mark on each sprocket with corresponding mark on front case. Reverse removal procedure to complete installation.

NOTE: Reverse order when removing cylinder head.
Temporarily set valve clearance to cold engine settings. Readjust to hot engine settings after engine is at normal operating temperature. Install rocker cover, air cleaner and breather hoses.
