Rear Axle Hub Bearing (CORDIA, GALANT, Mirage & TREDIA): Installation

  1. Install bearing outer races, using Installers (MB990926 and MB990928) and Driver (MB990938). Use press-fitting force of 4400 lbs. (2000 kg) or more. If less force is required, replace the entire drum assembly.
  2. Install inner bearing races. Press oil seal into end of drum, using Installer (MB990926) and driver. Apply grease to bearings, oil seal lip and inside surface of brake drum. Mount brake drum and check bearing play.
  3. If play exists, remove hub cap, cotter pin and lock cap. Loosen nut. Adjust bearing by tightening to 14 ft. lbs. (20 N.m). Loosen completely, and retighten to 44 INCH lbs. (5 N.m). Install lock cap and cotter pin.
