Replacing the radial shaft seal of the drive shaft (GS6-58BG, GS6-59BG/DG) (Cooper Clubman models with FWD)
Special tools required:
- 23 0 380
- 23 0 490
Preliminary work needed:
- Remove transmission. Refer to REMOVING TRANSMISSION (GS6-58BG) or REMOVING TRANSMISSION (GS6-59BG/DG) .
- Remove CLUTCH RELEASE BEARING .
Removal:
Release screws (2) and remove guide tube (1).
Drive a hole into radial shaft seal (1) using a center punch.
Screw in special tool 23 0 490.
Drive out radial shaft seal (1) with impact weight (2).
Installation:
Push the radial shaft seal onto corresponding special tool 23 0 380 and drive it in to the stop.
Check TRANSMISSION OIL LEVEL and check for leak.
Install guide tube (1) and tighten screws (2).
Tightening torque 23 11 1AZ .
The vehicle must be parked on a level surface in the workshop to check the transmission oil level.
Use only the approved TRANSMISSION OIL and fill to the appropriate level.
Failure to comply with this requirement will result in serious damage to the manual transmission!
Required follow-up work:
- Install CLUTCH RELEASE BEARING .
- Install transmission. Refer to INSTALLING TRANSMISSION (GS6-58BG) or INSTALLING TRANSMISSION (GS6-59BG/DG) .
