51 12 156 Removing and installing rear bumper panel: Notes

Preliminary work needed: 

Cooper (base): 

• Remove WHEEL HOUSING PLATES  from bumper cover
• Remove TAIL LIGHTS

Cooper S: 

• See PRELIMINARY WORK NEEDED (COOPER S) .

Removal: 

Release left and right screws (1).

Unscrew the screws (1).

Release bumper cover (1) from detents in marked areas (2).

Disconnect plug connections for rear fog light/ultrasonic sensor.

Remove bumper cover (1) with a second person helping.

Installation: 

Position bumper cover (1) with the aid of a second person.

Connect plug connections for rear fog light/ultrasonic sensor.

Clip in bumper cover (1) in detents in marked areas (2).

Tighten down screws (1).

Tighten screws (1) on left and right.

Tightening torque 51 12 3AZ .

Required reworking: 

• Install WHEEL HOUSING PANELS .
• Install TAIL LIGHTS
• Adjust GAP DIMENSION on bumper cover
