Installing and securing complete front axle

• Remove the seal (1).
• Clean surface on steering gear.
• Replace the seal (1).

• Position seal (1) and clip it in.

  NOTE: RISK OF DAMAGE 
  Failure to comply with the specification. Component damage. 

  • All specifications must  be observed and complied with.
• When lowering and lifting the front subframe, make sure that the torsion bar (1) of the electromechanical steering gear (EPS) in the area (2) does not collide with the cowl!

  NOTE: A collision with the cowl can damage the electromechanical steering gear (EPS)!
• Position front axle support.
• Bend the undershields to the side in the areas (3).
• Raise front axle support.
• When lifting, insert the charge air cooler into the rubber mount of the charge air cooler on the cross member.
• Replace screws (1) and (2).

• Tighten down screws (1).

  TIGHTENING TORQUES SPECIFICATION
  
  

  Rear end of front axle support to body
  Screw M14 Replace screw.	Tightening torque	175 Nm

• Tighten down screws (2).
  TIGHTENING TORQUES SPECIFICATION
  
  

  Front axle support, front to body
  M12 screw Replace screw.	Tightening torque	108 Nm

• Loosen the special tool 0 496 080 (33 5 206)  from the special tool 0 495 817 (31 5 251) .
• Lower universal jack 0 490 133 (00 2 030) with the special tool 0 495 817 (31 5 251) and place it to the side.

  NOTE: Perform the steps on the right and left side.
• Position track rod (2) on swivel bearing.
• Replace nut (1).

• Tighten nut (1).

  Tie rod end to swivel bearing
  M14 Replace nut.	Tightening torque	175 Nm

• Position wishbone (3) on swivel bearing.
• Replace the screw (2) and the nut (1).

  Parts:  Screw, nut

• Insert the screw (2).
• Screw the nut (1) on the screw (2).
• Tighten down screw (2).

  Wishbone to swivel bearing
  M10 Exclusively use the screw to tighten! Replace screw and nut.	tightening torque	56 Nm

• Refer to IF INSTALLED: INSTALLING UNDERBODY PROTECTION AT REAR .
• Refer to INSTALLING FRONT UNDERBODY PROTECTION .
• Refer to INSTALLING THE FRONT LEFT AND RIGHT WHEELS .
• Refer to REMOVING THE MOUNTING FOR THE COOLANT RADIATOR ON THE LEFT AND RIGHT .
• Refer to SECURING THE STEERING SHAFT AT THE BOTTOM ON THE STEERING GEAR .
• Refer to DISCONNECTING ALL BATTERY GROUND LEADS .
