32 33 010 Removing and installing (replacing) sports steering wheel/steering wheel (Countryman 2017-2023, except PHEV)
Preliminary work needed:
- Remove airbag unit. Refer to 32 34 020 REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING AIRBAG UNIT (EXCEPT SPORTS STEERING WHEEL) (COUNTRYMAN 2017-2023, EXCEPT PHEV) or 32 34 030 REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING AIRBAG UNIT (SPORTS STEERING WHEEL) (COUNTRYMAN 2017-2023, EXCEPT PHEV) .
Removal:
Attention!
When releasing the screw (2), have 2nd person counter-hold steering wheel in order to reduce torque on the steering column!
Shift wheels/steering wheel into straight-ahead driving position.
Disconnect plug connection (1).
Release screw (2)
Remove steering wheel.
Installation:
Coil spring without mechanical anti-twist lock:
(recognizable at the inspection glass for the mark of the neutral position)
- Do not twist the coil spring.
- Check the neutral position of the coil spring on the steering column switch cluster (SZL).
- Neutral position is correct only when the green or yellow mark (1) is clearly visible!
For replacement:
- If necessary, remount SHIFT PADDLES .
- Remount MULTIFUNCTION STEERING WHEEL SWITCH/SPOKE COVERS .
- Remount BOTTOM SPORTS STEERING WHEEL COVER .
Connect steering wheel.
Installation note:
Only for vehicles with micro-encapsulated screw (2): Clean thread in steering column and replace screw (2)!
Tighten down screws (2).
Tightening torque 32 33 1AZ .
Insert connector (1).
Installation note:
Make sure the cable routing (1) is correct!
The cable (1) must be routed between the ring (2) and the pin (3) as shown.
Attention!
Risk of damage!
The cable (1) must not be in contact with the pin (3)!
