51 31 011 Replace windshield (Countryman 2017-2023, except PHEV)

Attention!

The following notes form the basis for these repair instructions and must be adhered to at all times:

Notes on window bonding. Refer to 4100...INFORMATION ON VEHICLE PROTECTION , 5131...MATERIALS FOR BONDING WINDOW , 4100...SAFETY AT WORK , 5131...NOTES ON WINDOW BONDING REPAIR KIT and TOUCHING UP PAINTWORK DAMAGE (Countryman 2017-2023, except PHEV) .
GENERAL PROCEDURE for dismantling/installation of affixed window glass

Carry out removal with SPIDER .

The following new parts/CONSUMABLES are required (sourcing reference BMW Group parts sales).

Spacer buffer 5x5x20 mm	6

Expanding foam tape	1

Preliminary work needed:

Remove right WINDSHIELD PANEL COVER .
Remove the left and right TRIM FOR A-PILLAR .
Remove the front A-PILLAR TRIM PANEL .
Remove INTERIOR REARVIEW MIRROR .

Removal:

Depending on version:

Unplug plug connections (1 to 3).

Do not remount the rain-light solar and condensation sensor until after the windshield is disassembled.

Remove CAMERA .

NOTE: Cables torn from the windshield must not be soldered back in place. The windshield must be replaced.
Pay attention to the cables when cutting in this area!

Version with heated windshield:

Disconnect plug connection (1).

Secure cable with adhesive tape to windshield.

Attention!

Tape off body in area of piercing point with fabric adhesive tape.

Slide string along line (1) through adhesive bead.

Cut out WINDSHIELD .

Remove the RAIN/LIGHT/SOLAR AND CONDENSATION SENSOR and immediately install on a new windshield.

INSTALLATION:

Lining spacer buffers (spacers):

Attention!

To avoid windshield breakage and wind noises:

Completely remove remnants of removed spacer buffers and maintain installation location exactly.

Bond spacer buffer on mark on sheet metal flange.

Observe NOTES on component adhesion with adhesive tape!

Affix the expanding foam tape (1) on the windshield along the mark.

Mount the COVER/RUBBER FRAME (1) for the windshield.

Pre-treat adhesive area with Sika-Aktivator205.

a [mm] = Position adhesive bead	5 ± 1	5 ± 1	7 ± 1
b [mm] = Width adhesive bead	8 ± 1
h [mm] = Height adhesive bead	12 ± 1

NOTE: In screen printing, a tolerance band (two dashed lines) is provided to mark the path of the adhesive bead. Place the adhesive bead in the outer area of the tolerance band.
Apply bead joint in area (2).

Perform the following steps carefully on the windshield (1) using SUCTION LIFTER (51 3 010):

Position at top
Align sides evenly
Insert at bottom and press down
Press upwards until rubber frame rests evenly on roof
Bond rubber frame on roof (see next operation)
Fix its height in this position using two pieces of yellow plastic adhesive tape (2) at the top

Windshield gap dimensions:

For wind noise to be prevented, the windshield (1) must be lower than the roof outer skin (2).

Measure distance (A) on left and right using special tool 51 0 010.

Rubber frame (3) must be even and in parallel to roof outer skin (2).

(A) = 3.2 ±1.4 mm

Carry out camera calibration via diagnostic system.

Under Service Functions menu:

Required follow-up work:

Install the right COWL COVER .
Install the left and right TRIM FOR A-PILLAR .
Install the front A-PILLAR TRIM PANEL .
Install INTERIOR REARVIEW MIRROR
