72 11 022 Removing and installing/replacing front left or right safety belt (complete) (Cooper 2-door hatchback models, 2020-2023)

WARNING: Read and comply with SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS for handling airbag modules and pyrotechnic seat belt tensioners.
Incorrect handling can activate airbag and cause injury.
A damaged head airbag must be replaced.
A damaged head airbag is limited in its protective function or can, in extreme cases, no longer perform its protective function.

Installation note:

Clean all threaded belt connections with micro-encapsulated external and internal threads.
Shavings or other debris must not remain in the components.
If a microencapsulated screw is reused, it must be coated with the following screw locking agent: Loctite 243 of medium strength.
The screw connection must be completed within 10 minutes as hardening begins after this period.

Preliminary work needed:

Disconnect NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE .
Remove FRONT SEAT .
Remove REAR SIDE TRIM PANEL .

Removal:

Remove screw (1).

Remove end lining (2).

Release screws (1) and remove idler bracket.

Remove screw (2).

Put the seat belt guide loop including the seat belt strap to one side.

Unlock and disconnect connector (1).

Remove screw (2).

Feed out electrically motorized reel (3) from guide.

Remove safety belt.

Cut open cable tie (1).

Unlock the detents and guide the connector (2) out of the connector housing (3) in the arrow direction.

Detach cable (1) from seat mechanism.

Release fixture (1) from seat mechanism.

Remove screw (2).

Remove lower strap lining (3).

Installation:

Mount lower strap (3) on seat mechanism.

NOTE: Lower strap is encoded against incorrect assembly (3).

Tighten screw (2).

Tightening torque 72 11 5AZ .

Mount cable with clip (1) to seat mechanism.

Feed in cable (1) to seat mechanism.

Guide the connector (1) into the connector housing (2).

NOTE: Ensure correct locking.

Secure cable to connector housing (2) with cable tie (3).

Mount electrically motorized reel.

NOTE: Electrically motorized reel (3) is encoded against incorrect installation.

Replace screw (2).

Tighten screw (2).

Tightening torque 72 11 1AZ .

Connect the connector (1).

Install the seat belt guide loop including the seat belt strap.

Tighten screw (2).

Tightening torque 72 11 3AZ .

Mount idler bracket.

Tighten down screws (1).

Tightening torque 72 11 4AZ .

Mount end lining (2).

NOTE: End lining (2) is encoded to prevent incorrect assembly.

Tighten screw (1).

Tightening torque 72 11 2AZ .

Required follow-up work:

Install REAR TRIM PANEL .
Install the FRONT SEAT .
Connect NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE .
