51 31 011 Replace windshield (Cooper 2-door hatchback models, 2020-2023)

Attention!

The following notes form the basis for these repair instructions and must be adhered to at all times:

Notes on window bonding. Refer to INFORMATION ON VEHICLE PROTECTION (COOPER 4-DOOR HATCHBACK AND 2-DOOR HATCHBACK, 2020-2023) , MATERIALS FOR BONDING WINDOW (COOPER 4-DOOR HATCHBACK AND COOPER 2-DOOR HATCHBACK, 2020-2023) , SAFETY AT WORK REP-ALG-RAGRP41-4102100 - V.6 (COOPER 4-DOOR HATCHBACK AND 2-DOOR HATCHBACK, 2020-2023) and TOUCHING UP PAINTWORK DAMAGE REP-ALG-RAGRP99-9900XX1 - V.1 (COOPER 4-DOOR HATCHBACK AND COOPER 2-DOOR HATCHBACK, 2020-2023) .
GENERAL PROCEDURE for dismantling/installation of affixed window glass

Remove with SPIDER .

The following new parts/CONSUMABLES are required (sourcing reference BMW Group parts sales).

Rubber frame for the windshield	1
Spacer buffer 5x5x20 mm	6
Small repair kit	1
Expanding foam tape	1

Preliminary work needed:

Remove right WINDSHIELD PANEL COVER .
Remove COVER ON A-PILLAR on left/right
Remove WINDSHIELD RUBBER FRAME .
Removing THE A-PILLAR TRIM PANEL .
Remove INTERIOR REARVIEW MIRROR .

Removal:

Depending on version:

Unplug plug connections (1 to 3).

Do not remount the rain-light solar and condensation sensor until after the windshield is disassembled.

Remove CAMERA .

NOTE: Cables torn from the windshield must not be soldered back in place. The windshield must be replaced.
Pay attention to cable when cutting in this area.

Version with heated windshield:

Disconnect plug connection (1).

Secure cable with adhesive tape to windshield.

Attention!

Tape off body in area of piercing point with fabric adhesive tape.

Slide string out of SPIDER along line (1) through adhesive bead (2).

Cut out WINDSHIELD .

Remove the RAIN/LIGHT/SOLAR AND CONDENSATION SENSOR and immediately install on a new windshield.

INSTALLATION:

Lining spacer buffers (spacers):

Attention!

To avoid windshield breakage and wind noises:

Completely remove remnants of removed spacer buffers and maintain installation location exactly.

Bond spacer buffer on mark on sheet metal flange.

Cut	A - A	B - B	C - C
a [mm] = Position adhesive bead	5 ±1	5 ±1	7 ±1
b [mm] = Width adhesive bead	8 ±1
h [mm] = Height adhesive bead	12 ±1

If necessary, install RUBBER FRAME (1), paying attention to center markings in so doing.

NOTE: A tolerance band is printed on the ceramic (two dashed lines) that marks the position of the adhesive bead. Place the adhesive bead in the outer area of the tolerance band.

Apply bead joint in area (2).

Perform the following steps carefully on the windshield (1) using SUCTION LIFTER (51 3 010):

Position at top
Align sides evenly
Insert at bottom and press down
Press upwards until rubber frame rests evenly on roof
Bond rubber frame on roof (see next operation)
secure in terms of height in this position at top with two yellow plastic adhesive tapes (2)

Carry out camera calibration via diagnostic system.
