34 00 025 Replacing fluid in DSC brake system (Cooper JCW GP 2-door hatchback)
Preliminary work needed:
- Read and comply with GENERAL NOTES .
Attention!
Do not reuse drawn out brake fluid.
In order to drive the MINI John Cooper Works GP on a race track, BMW recommends replacing the brake fluid with a high-performance brake fluid beforehand, refer to MINI OPERATING FLUIDS .
Conventional brake fluid cannot be visually distinguished from high-performance brake fluid.
The two brake fluids can be mixed.
Before replacing the brake fluid, check which brake fluid is in the vehicle.
If there is high-performance brake fluid in the brake system, there is a maintenance label on the brake fluid expansion tank with the corresponding note.
Before replacing the brake fluid during maintenance or repair, it must be discussed with the customer whether high-performance brake fluid should be refilled.
Release screw plug (1).
Remove cover (2).
Attention!
To guarantee a correct vent of the brake system, observe the following:
- Top up the brake fluid in the expansion tank to the lower edge of the thread (1) with new brake fluid.
- Vent the hose of the bleeder unit before connecting.
Attention!
If there is no high-performance brake fluid in the brake system, but you want to switch to high-performance brake fluid, please observe the following:
- Drawing off conventional brake fluid in the brake fluid expansion tank
- Filling up the high-performance brake fluid in the expansion tank with new brake fluid up to the lower edge of the thread (1)
- Draining the bleeder unit completely and filling it with high-performance brake fluid
- Vent the hose of the bleeder unit before connecting
Connect bleeder unit (1) on expansion tank and switch on.
Attention!
Please observe Owner's Manual of the respective equipment manufacturer.
Charging pressure should not exceed 2 bar.
Fully flush the rear axle brake system.
Connect venter hose with collecting tray to venter valve on rear right brake caliper.
Open venter valve and purge until clear, bubble-free brake fluid emerges.
Close bleed valve.
Tightening Torque 34 00 1 AZ .
Carry out the same procedure on the rear left wheel brake.
Fully flush the front axle brake system.
Connect venter hose with collecting tray to venter valve on front right brake caliper.
Open venter valve and purge until clear, bubble-free brake fluid emerges.
Close bleed valve.
Tightening Torque 34 00 1 AZ .
Carry out the same procedure on the front left wheel brake.
Switch off bleeder unit and remove from expansion tank.
Check brake fluid level. If necessary, top up/draw off to maximum level.
Close expansion tank.
Attention!
If the brake system has been filled with high-performance brake fluid, a maintenance label must be affixed to the brake fluid expansion tank.
The date, the usage of the vehicle and the description of the filled brake fluid must be documented on the maintenance label.
