Removing the front end

Preliminary work

Refer to REMOVING THE ACOUSTIC COVER .
Refer to DISCONNECTING THE NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE OF THE SYSTEM BATTERY .
Refer to REMOVING THE BRACE ON THE FRONT AXLE SUPPORT .
Refer to DRAINING COOLANT ON THE COOLANT PUMP OF THE POWER ELECTRONICS .
Refer to DRAINING THE COOLING SYSTEM ON THE HIGH-VOLTAGE BATTERY UNIT .
Refer to REMOVING FRONT WHEEL .
Refer to REMOVING THE FRONT LEFT AND RIGHT WHEEL ARCH COVER .
Refer to REMOVING REAR HOOD SEAL .

Unlock and disconnect all plug connections of the wiring harness (1).
Unclip wiring harness (1) on all cable brackets.
Unclip relay holder (2).

Unlock and disconnect all plug connections of the wiring harness (1).
Unclip wiring harness (1) on all cable brackets.

Release the window washer pump (1) from the washer fluid reservoir for the washer system, collecting the leaking washer fluid if necessary.
Make sure that the seal (2) is not damaged or not lost.

Unclip Bowden cable bracket (1) from the cross member (2) at the front.
Release the lid of the Bowden cable bracket (1) at the snap-in lugs and fold up and forwards.
Detach the Bowden cable (3) for the hood latch from the Bowden cable bracket (1).

Unlock the coolant hose (1) and remove it from the coupling (2).
Unclip coolant hose (1) at the holders (3).

Unlock the coolant hoses (1) and detach them from the coolant expansion tank (2).

Unlock coolant hoses (1) and detach them off the coolant pump (2).

Unlock coolant hose (1) and detach.
Unlock and disconnect plug connections (2).
Unclip associated cable brackets.

Release and guide the locking pins (1) out in the arrow direction.
Fold the coolant radiator (2) slightly to the rear to make guiding the wiring harness out easier in the next step.

Unlock plug connection (1) and disconnect.
Unclip the wiring harness (2) at all the holders and guide it out.

Loosen screws (1).

Unlock coolant hose (1) and detach.
Unclip the coolant hose (1) at the existing holders.

Loosen screws (1).
Loosen expanding rivet (2).
Remove the covers (3).

NOTE: Perform the steps on the left and right side.

Mark the position of the cross member (1) on the wheel well (2).

Carefully guide the front end (1) out forwards with the help of a support person and remove it.

Make sure that the radiator hoses (1) are completely unthreaded and do not get tangled up.

CAUTION: Heavy component .
Heavy components can lead to injury or damage .

Remove and install heavy components with the aid of another person/other persons.

Place the front end (1) in front of the vehicle and unlock and pull off the radiator hose (2) from the electrical machine electronics (EME).
