Installing exhaust turbocharger
NOTE:

- Do not pull on the electrical wastegate valve controller or on the coupling rod.
- Apply force only at the turbine housing and exhaust manifold.
- Do not pull on the compressor housing.

- Close off line connections with seal plugs.

The sealing surfaces must be free of oil, grease and cleaning agents.

- Replace gasket.

- Mount the seal so that the part number (1) remains legible.
- Insert the seal (1) at the cylinder head and install.
- Make sure the installation orientation of the seal (1) is correct.
- Insert and position the exhaust turbocharger (1) from the top.
- Guide in the exhaust turbocharger (1) down into the trim strip (2) and bring into contact with the cylinder head.

- Check the shifting strip (1) for the correct installation position.
The original BMW part number must be readable from the rear.
- Feed in and install the shifting strip (1).
- Replace all nuts.

- Tighten the nuts in the sequence (1) to (5).TIGHTENING TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS

1. Joining torque10 Nm 2. tightening torque 10 Nm Position the 3rd Joining torque 16 Nm 4. tightening torque 16 Nm 5. tightening torque 16 Nm - Check sealing ring (1) for damage, replace if necessary.
- Detach locks (1) from the holders in the arrow direction.
- Ensure that locks (1) engage audibly.
- Guide in and install the pressure pipe (1) on the exhaust turbocharger (2) in the arrow direction.
- Ensure that locks (3) engage audibly.
- Insert and install the line (2).
- Tighten down screws (1).TIGHTENING TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS
Charge air line to oil pan M6x35 tightening torque 8 Nm - Insert and install the coolant return line (3).
- Insert the coolant feed line (2) and install.
- Tighten down screw (1).TIGHTENING TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS
Coolant feed line and return line to exhaust turbocharger M6 Tightening torque 8 Nm - Connect the connector (1) and (2) lock.
- Make sure the connector (1) and (2) engages audibly.
Perform initial filling with the additive when replacing the exhaust turbocharger

- Be sure to do the initial filling when replacing the exhaust turbocharger.
- Fill the exhaust turbocharger with the matching additive (see applicable BMW parts catalogue).
- Fill additive (1) in the bore (2) of the oil feed line.CONSUMABLE SPECIFICATION

Observe the sign in the engine compartment! Only fill with approved engine oil of the correct (Society of Automotive Engineers) vis grade.

- Fill the exhaust turbocharger with engine oil to the edge by connecting the oil supply line (2).

- Insert and install the oil supply line (2).
- Tighten down screw (1).TIGHTENING TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS
Oil feed line to exhaust turbocharger/crankcase M6x12 Tightening torque 8 Nm - Insert and install the heat shield (2) on the holder (3).
- Tighten down screw (1).TIGHTENING TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS
Heat shield to trim strip M6 Tightening torque 8 Nm - Thread out the standard tools (2) on the exhaust turbocharger (1) and remove.
