51 23 400 Removing and installing/replacing left or right actuator (active pedestrian protection) (Cooper 4-door hatchback and Cooper 2-door hatchback)
WARNING:
Adhere to the following SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
so as to avoid a injury hazard by the actuator.
The BATTERY NEGATIVE LEAD must be clamped off prior to work on the actuator or engine compartment lid!
Do not exert any force on the actuator.
Incorrect handling may result in triggering of the actuator and thereby cause serious injury.

Necessary preliminary work
- DISCONNECT cable from battery earth lead
- Remove windshield panel cover. Refer to 51 13 123 REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING THE WINDSHIELD PANEL COVER, LEFT V.2 (COOPER 4-DOOR HATCHBACK AND COOPER 2-DOOR HATCHBACK, 2020-2023) and 51 13 124 REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING THE WINDSHIELD PANEL COVER, RIGHT (COOPER 4-DOOR HATCHBACK AND COOPER 2-DOOR HATCHBACK, 2020-2023) .
Removal
Unfasten plug connection (1) and disconnect.
Release bolt (2) and remove actuator (3).
Comply with notes regarding handling active.
Installation
Install actuator (3) and tighten bolt (2).
Tightening torque 41 61 3AZ .
Connect the connector (1).
Required follow-up work:
- Connect BATTERY GROUND LEAD .
- Installing WINDSHIELD PANEL COVER .
