Install the engine bridge
Preliminary work
- Refer to REMOVING REAR HOOD SEAL .
- Refer to REMOVING FRONT WINDSHIELD PANEL COVER .
- Refer to REMOVING SUSPENSION CROSS-BRACE .
- Refer to REMOVING THE UPPER BULKHEAD COVER PANEL .
- Refer to REMOVING THE ACOUSTIC COVER .
Prepared engine bridge
Precondition
The hood is in the service position.
CAUTION:
Components connected to the engine joint or cross member.
Injury hazard!

- Check lifting eyes and engine mounting brackets for damage, e.g. cracks.
- Attach the component to correctly mounted engine joints or cross members only.
- Only lift the component, do not shift it forwards, backwards or in transverse direction.
- Unclip cover (1) on left and right, and remove.
Removing left and right cover caps with EDC
NOTE:
The operations shown only for one side must be carried out on both sides.
- Insert and position the special tool 2 459 012 at the cylinder head.
- Tighten the screws (1) of the special tool 2 459 012.

- Remove and install heavy components with the aid of another person/other persons.
- Place the completed cross-member 0 496 852 (00 6 100)on the vehicle with support staff.
- Right front support point (1) for special tool 0 496 956 (00 6 150)
- Right rear support point (1) for special tool 0 496 956 (00 6 150)
- Rear left support point (1) for special tool 0 496 956 (00 6 150)
- Left front support point (1) for special tool 0 496 956 (00 6 150)
- Put on and align special tool 0 496 852 (00 6 100) with special tool 0 496 956 (00 6 150) .
- Tighten screws from special tool 0 496 956 (00 6 150) on the rear support points (strut bearings).
- Attach hook (1) and (2) of special tool 0 490 561 (11 0 000)to the engine mounting brackets.
- Slightly pretension special tool 0 490 561 (11 0 000) via the spindle (3).
- Tighten all adjustment screws and all nuts of special tool 0 496 852 (00 6 100) and 0 496 956 (00 6 150) .
