23 11 311 Replacing the shifting unit (GS6-58/59 BG/DG)

Necessary preliminary work: 

• Remove INTAKE SILENCER HOUSING
• Put the gear into neutral

Removal: 

Lever the insert fixtures (3) of the selector lever cables from the ball joints with the open-end spanner SW13.

Loosen screws (1).

Release gearshift dome by tugging on the shift weight (1); pull gearshift dome approx. 30 mm out of the transmission housing.

Turn gearshift dome unit through 90 ° counter clockwise.

Pull out gearshift dome unit (1) upwards.

Installation:

Clean sealing surface (1) with a lint-free cloth to remove gasket residues.

Apply surface sealant to sealing surface (1).

Surface sealing compound: Loctite 5203, BMW part number 83 19 0 395 783

Rotate gearshift dome and insert into transmission to approx. 30 mm above the end position.

Then rotate gearshift dome through 90 ° clockwise to the end position and insert in the housing up to limit position.

Tighten down screws (1).

Installation note: 

Replace screws.

Tightening torque 23 41 1AZ

Attach selector lever cables (3) at ball joints.
