12 42 500 Replacing the positive battery cable from the battery to the starter motor (B48, B46)

Necessary preliminary tasks: 

Removal: 

Release expanding rivet and remove mounting for gasket (1).

Release screw and remove tension strut (1).

Release nuts (2) and (3).

Detach positive battery cables from battery terminal.

Slacken nut (1).

Detach battery terminal from battery.

Release positive battery cable (4) from partition wall.

Release positive battery cable from retainers (1).

Slacken nut (2).

Detach positive battery cable from alternator.

Release positive battery cable from retainers (1).

Release nut (1) on starter motor.

Release screw (2) from cable clip.

Feed out positive battery cable and remove.

Installation: 

Install positive battery cable.

Connect positive battery cable to starter motor.

Tighten nut (1).

Tightening torque 12 52 3AZ .

Install cable clip.

Tighten screw (2).

Tightening torque 12 52 4AZ .

Secure positive battery cable with clamps (1).

Connect positive battery cable to alternator.

Tighten nut (2).

Secure positive battery cable with clamps (1).

Tightening torque 12 52 2AZ .

Install positive battery cable (4) on partition wall.

Ensure rubber grommet is correctly fitted on partition wall.

Connect positive battery terminal to battery.

Tighten nut (1).

Tightening torque 61 21 1AZ .

Connect positive battery cables to positive battery terminal.

Tighten nuts (2) and (3).

Tightening torque 61 21 3AZ .

Join tension strut (1) and tighten with screws.

Tightening torque 61 21 5AZ .

Join mounting for gasket (1) and secure with expanding rivet.
