Replacing all valve stem seals (B48 and B46 engine) (Cooper S and John Cooper Works)

Special tools required:
- 11 1 480
- 11 1 960
- 11 6 380
Preliminary work needed:
- Remove VALVE SPRINGS .
Removal:
Disassemble the valve stem seal (1) with the special tool 11 1 480 in direction of arrow.
Installation:
Installation note:
As an alternative to special tool 11 1 960, the assembly sleeves delivered with the spare part can be used.
NOTE:
The contact surface (1) must be clean.
NOTE:
Before installing the valve stem seals, the special tool 11 1 960 or assembly sleeve must be fitted on the valve stem! Risk of damage
to the sealing lip!
Position special tool 11 1 960 or assembly sleeve on the valve (1).
Position and guide in special tool 11 1 960 or assembly sleeve on the valve stem seal (1).
Guide out and remove special tool 11 1 960 or assembly sleeves.
Replace the valve stem seal (1).
Position the new valve stem seal (1) in special tool 11 6 380.
NOTE:
Risk of damage
to the sealing lip!
Press on valve stem seal (1) to stop using special tool 11 6 380 in arrow direction.
Required follow-up work:
- Install VALVE SPRINGS .
- Assemble engine
