WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 6 other vehicles, including the 2021 MINI Cooper, 2020 MINI Cooper, 2019 MINI Cooper, 2018 MINI Cooper, and 2017 MINI Cooper. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

Special tools required:

Attention!

Risk of damage to engine.

Rotate the engine, by hand only, in the correct direction of rotation  (clockwise) while keeping an eye on the vibration damper.

Preliminary work needed:

Have the adapter for the spark plug thread (60) (1) ready.

Turn the engine by hand with the special tool 11 6 480.

If the piston travels upward, the bubble level (2) also travels upward in the arrow direction  inside the cylinder tube (1).

The top dead center  is the location of both the piston and the bubble level (2) in the cylinder tube (1) at the highest point.

Check all cylinders for loss of pressure using the special tool 2 302 630.

Attention!

The description is provided only at one cylinder  .

The procedure is the same for all other cylinders  .

Connect the quick-release coupling (1) of the pressure gauge to the adapter for the spark plug thread (60) (2) and lock it.

The quick-release coupling (1) of the pressure gauge must engage audibly.

Read off the loss of pressure. The needle (1) of the pressure gauge must be positioned within the green area  of 0-22 %.

Losses of pressure less than 22 % are to be viewed as OK  values.

Read off the loss of pressure. The needle (1) of the pressure gauge must be positioned within the green area  of 0-22 %.

If the loss of pressure is greater  than 22 %:

Possible fault causes:

Determine leak of the piston rings (crankcase ventilation).

Determine leak of the intake valves (intake port).

Determine leak of the exhaust valves (exhaust system).
