Removing and installing/replacing left or right gas spring for engine compartment lid (Cooper Convertible)

Use suitable tool to support hood in the fully opened position.
Use suitable tool to support hood in the fully opened position.
Removal:
Make a written record of the installation position of the gas springs before removing.
If necessary, release cable bracket on gas spring (2).
Slide retaining spring (1) to end of gas spring (2) and lift off gas spring (2) from ball head.
Repeat procedure at other end of gas strut (2).
Installation:
Slide retaining spring (1) back into initial position.
Press the gas spring (2) onto the ball hubs on the vehicle at the top and bottom end.
Gas spring (2) must be felt to engage.
