Removing and installing/replacing eccentric shaft (B38 engine) (Cooper Clubman base)

Special tools required: 

Preliminary work needed: 

Removal: 

Release screws (1).

Set down the bearing cap neatly in special tool 11 4 480.

Release all screws (2) evenly.

Set down all bearing brackets neatly in special tool 11 4 480.

NOTE: All bearing brackets must be reinstalled in the same positions in an engine which has already been in use.

Remove intermediate shaft (1) from cylinder head.

Installation: 

Check all needle bearings (2) of eccentric shaft (1) for ease of movement.

IMPORTANT: If one or more needle bearings are faulty, the complete eccentric shaft must be replaced.

Clean all bearing positions (1) and coat with motor oil.

Before assembly of the eccentric shaft shift the needle bearing (1) in the direction of the arrow up to the stop.

Oil the needle bearings of eccentric shaft (1).

Mount eccentric shaft on cylinder head.

Mount bearing shell (2) and bearing brackets (3) on cylinder head.

The bearing cap (1) is provided with a stop.

Tighten all screws (1 and 2) evenly.

Tightening torque 11 37 3AZ .
