Removing and installing/replacing vibration damper (B48 and B46 engines) (Cooper Clubman S and JCW)

Special tools required: 

• 11 8 180
• 2 288 159

Preliminary work needed: 

• Release BELT FOR ALTERNATOR 

Removal: 

Undo the transmission bolts (1).

Remove protective cap (2).

Prepare special tool 118180/1 with special tool 11 8 180/3, 11 8 180/4 and 2 288 159.

Fix the special tool 11 8 180 with the housing screws.

Slide the special tool 2 288 159 into the transmission housing and fix the flywheel.

Tighten down all screws.

Slacken all screws on the vibration damper (1).

Feed out and remove vibration damper (1) from drive belt.

Replacement: 

• Replacing FRONT CRANKSHAFT SEAL 

Installation: 

Coat the sealing surface on the vibration damper with clean motor oil.

Position vibration damper (1).

Route drive belt (2) properly over the vibration damper.

Tighten down all screws.

Tightening torque 11 23 1 AZ .

Undo the Torx screws.

Remove special tool 11 8 180 with 2 288 159.

Tighten down Torx screws (1).

Tightening torque 23 00 1 AZ .

Mount protective cap (2).

Required reworking: 

• Tension DRIVE BELT FOR ALTERNATOR
