Removing and installing/replacing flywheel (B38 engine) (Cooper Clubman base)

Special tools required: 

• 11 9 811
• 11 9 265
• 11 4 180
• 00 9 120

Preliminary work needed: 

• Vehicles with automatic transmission:  Remove transmission. Refer to the appropriate procedure:
  • For automatic transmission with FWD, refer to REMOVING AND INSTALLING TRANSMISSION (6-SPEED, AISIN GA6F21AW)
  • For automatic transmission with AWD, refer to REMOVING AND INSTALLING TRANSMISSION (8-SPEED, AISIN GA8F22AW)
• Vehicles with manual transmission:  Remove CLUTCH .

REMOVAL: 

Manual transmission  .

Secure flywheel with transmission bolt (1) and special tool 11 9 811/11 9 265.

Release flywheel bolts using special tool 11 4 180.

Automatic transmission  .

Secure flywheel with transmission bolt (1) and special tool 11 9 811/11 9 265.

Unfasten flywheel bolts.

INSTALLATION: 

Manual transmission  .

Position flywheel (B).

Replace flywheel bolts (1) to (8).

Parts:  Flywheel bolts

Screw in the new flywheel bolts by hand using special tool 0 491 018 (11 4 180).

Ensure that the tightening sequence starts with dowel pin (A).

Secure flywheel with transmission bolt (1) and special tool 11 9 811/11 9 265.

Tighten the flywheel bolts using special tool 11 4 180 (note the angle of rotation in the next step).

Tightening torque: 11 22 1AZ .

Mark all flywheel bolts (1) with a vertical line.

Tighten all flywheel bolts (1) at an angle of rotation of 45° using special tool.00 9 120.

Remove special tool 11 9 811/11 9 265.

Automatic transmission  .

Position flywheel (B).

Replace flywheel bolts (1) to (8).
