Replacing the wiring harness section for injectors and ignition coils (B36, B38, B46, B48) (Cooper)

IMPORTANT: Read and comply with NOTES on protection against electrostatic damage (ESD protection).

Preliminary work needed:

Disconnect BATTERY NEGATIVE LEAD .
Remove upper FIREWALL COVER .
Remove ACOUSTIC COVER .

Unlock and disconnect following connectors and lines	Note
Unlock and disconnect connector from DME control unit
Unlock and detach connector from ignition coils.
Unlock and detach connector from injectors.

Release expansion rivet (1).

Slacken nut (2).

Feed out cover (3) and remove.

Loosen the screws along the arrows.

Take out and remove tension strut (1).

Unscrew nuts (1).

Take out positive battery cables (2) and put them aside.

Slacken nut (1).

Release seal (2).

Feed out positive battery cable (3) and lay to one side.

Pull out the cable duct (1) and put it aside.

Feed out partition wall (1) and remove.

Unlock the locks along the arrow.

Take out and remove the cover (1) from the guides (2).

Unlock and disconnect all connectors (1) on control unit.

Unlock holder (1) and release.

Unlock and disconnect plugs (1).

Lift wiring harness-section (3).

Unlock and disconnect plugs (1).

Take out wiring harness-section (2) and place it aside.

Release wiring harness-section injectors and ignition coils from clips and clamps.

Pull out and remove wiring harness section for injectors and ignition coils.

Installation:

Lay and install wiring harness section for injectors and ignition coils.

All connectors must audibly engage.

Connect and lock the connector of DME control unit
Connect and lock the connector of ignition coils.
Connect and lock injector connectors.

Feed in and install wiring harness section (2).

Attach and lock connector (1).

Feed in and install wiring harness section (3).

Attach and lock connector (1).

Tighten nut (2).

Tightening torque 12 52 6AZ .

Installation note:

Make sure seal (2) is correctly seated.

Tighten nut (1).

Tightening torque 61 21 1AZ .

Insert and install positive battery cables (2).

Tighten nut (1).
