Replacing backrest cover for left rear seat including pass-through system

Special tools required: 

• 52 0 050

The seat frame has very sharp edges that can cause injuries from cuts.

Exercise extreme caution and wear work gloves as required when carrying out any repair work in the area of the seat frame.

Preliminary work needed: 

• Remove left REAR PANEL  on rear seat backrest
• Remove left GUIDE SLEEVES  for head restraint

Removal: 

Unlock backrest for center rear seat (1) and remove from left backrest (2) in arrow direction.

Unclip cover (1).

Thread out grommet (2).

Remove screw (1).

Remove outer bearing (2).

Press seat cover and upholstery slightly to one side.

Press detents (1) downwards and unclip cover (2) outwards.

Remove screw (1).

Detach seat belt finisher strip (2) upwards.

Feed out seat belt strap (3) from seat belt finisher strip (2).

Lever out entire seat cover welt (1) if necessary.

Feed out backrest frame (1) from seat cover and remove.

Detaching cover (1) from upholstery: 

• Disconnect all clamps in marked area (2).
• Remove cover (1) from upholstery
• Remove all remnants of clips from cover (1) and upholstery.

Installation: 

Pull seat cover (1) over upholstery and mount clamps in marked area (2).

Parts:  Replace clamps.

Insert new clamp (2) with special tool 52 0 050 and bend closed.

2. Clamp
3. Trim wire in upholstery
4. Trim wire in seat cover
5. Seat cover

Parts:  Replace clamps.

Feed in backrest frame (1) into seat cover.

Feed seat belt strap (3) into seat belt finisher strip (2).

Clip in seat belt finisher strip (2) from above.

Tighten screw (1).

Put on outer bearing (2).

Tighten screw (1).

Tightening torque 52 26 7AZ .

Thread in grommet (2).

Clip on the cover (1).

Push backrest for center rear seat (1) in arrow direction onto the left backrest (2).

Required reworking: 

• Install left REAR PANEL  on rear seat backrest
• Install GUIDE SLEEVES  for left head restraint
