Replace the rear window on the left (or right) split door

Attention! 

• NOTES  on window bonding
• GENERAL PROCEDURE  for dismantling/installation of affixed window glass

Removal is carried out with SPIDER .

The following new parts/CONSUMABLES  are required (sourcing reference applicable BMW Group parts catalog/sales).

Velcro fastener (Dual Lock tape)	4
Supporting strip	1

Preliminary work needed: 

• Remove WINDOW CAVITY COVER STRIP .
• Remove wiper motor. Refer to: LEFT WIPER MOTOR or RIGHT WIPER MOTOR .

Removal: 

Unlock plug connections (1) and disconnect.

If required release the cable from the cable holders and fix it with the adhesive tape on the rear window.

Pay attention to cable while cutting in this area.

Remove rubber wrapper (1).

Slide in cord in area (1) from inside through adhesive bead.

Left rear window: 

Place the cord (1) in the clockwise direction seen from outside around the rear window (2).

Insert the cord (1) in the lower area between the rear window (2) and the strip (3).

Right rear window: 

Place the cord (1) in the counter-clockwise direction seen from outside around the rear window (2).

Insert the cord (1) in the lower area between the rear window (2) and the strip (3).

Insert the cord in the marked area behind the seal (1).

Secure rear window against falling down.

Cut out rear window completely.

Insert the cord (2) behind the pin (1) for making the cutting easier in the area of the pin (1).

In the area (3) an additional pin, which is separated at the time of cutting, is installed.

Installation: 

Remove the remaining of the Velcro fasteners (1) and of the pins (2).

Clean the bonding surface of the Velcro fastener (1).

Stick new Velcro fasteners (1) on the markings on the split door.

Unclip the holding rail (3) backwards and install new holding rail (3).

Overview for side window bonding: 

b  [mm] = Width adhesive bead	8±1
h  [mm] = Height adhesive bead	15 ±1

Apply bead joint in area (1).

A tolerance band is printed on the ceramic (two dashed lines) that marks the position of the adhesive bead. Place the adhesive bead centrally on the tolerance band.

Open split door.

Place and press on the rear window over the pins (1) on the split door.

Engage rear window (2) in Velcro fasteners.

Connect the connector (1).

Insert rubber grommet (1).

Required follow-up work: 

• Insert wiper motor. Refer to: LEFT WIPER MOTOR or RIGHT WIPER MOTOR .
• Install the WINDOW CHANNEL STRIP .
