Removing and installing or replacing the oil pump (B48 and B46 engine) (Cooper S and John Cooper Works)

IMPORTANT: It is possible to remove and install the oil/vacuum pump without removing the transmission.

Preliminary work needed: 

REMOVAL: 

Release screws (1) of oil/vacuum pump (2).

Remove oil/vacuum pump (1) and feed out of drive chain (2).

Replacement: 

Unscrew the screws (1). Remount intake pipe (2).

Tighten down screws (1).

Tightening torque: 11 41 1AZ .

Replacement: 

IMPORTANT: Pay attention to mounting flats on oil pump (see arrow).

Labeling "Front" on the camshaft wheel (1) needs to be visible.

Replacement: 

IMPORTANT: Screw (1) has left-hand thread.

"Front" needs to be legible on the camshaft wheel.

Hold down camshaft wheel (2) with a suitable tool. Remove screw (1). Remount camshaft wheel.

Parts: Replace screw (1).

Mount camshaft wheel (2) and hold down with a suitable tool. Tighten screw (1).

Tightening torque: 11 41 5AZ .

INSTALLATION: 

IMPORTANT: Sealing ring (1) must not be damaged or missing.

Check centering connectors for damage, replace if necessary.

Feed oil/vacuum pump (1) into drive chain (2).

Tighten down screws (1) of oil/vacuum pump (2).

Tightening torque: 11 41 2AZ .
