Removing and installing or replacing vacuum pump (B36 engine) (Cooper base)
IMPORTANT:
It is possible to remove and install the oil/vacuum pump without
removing the transmission.
Preliminary work needed:
- Remove OIL SUMP .
REMOVAL:
Release screws (1) of oil/vacuum pump (2).
Remove oil/vacuum pump (1).
Feed oil/vacuum pump (1) out of drive chain (2) and remove.
Replacement:
Unscrew the screws (1). Remount intake pipe (2).
Tighten down screws (1).
Tightening torque: 11 41 1AZ .
Replacement:
IMPORTANT:
Pay attention to mounting flats (1) on oil pump (see arrow).
The label "Front" must be visible.

Replacement:
IMPORTANT:
Screw (1) has left-hand thread.
"Front" (3) must be readable.
"Front" (3) must be readable.
Hold down camshaft wheel (2) with a suitable tool. Remove screw (1). Remount camshaft wheel.
Parts: Replace screw (1).
Mount camshaft wheel (2) and hold down with a suitable tool. Tighten screw (1).
Tightening torque: 11 41 4AZ .
INSTALLATION:
IMPORTANT:
Sealing ring (3) must not be damaged or missing.
Check centering connectors for damage, replace if necessary.
Check centering connectors for damage, replace if necessary.
Feed oil/vacuum pump (1) into drive chain (2).
Install oil/vacuum pump (1).
Tighten down screws (1) of oil/vacuum pump (2).
Tightening torque: 11 41 2AZ .
Required follow-up work:
- Install OIL SUMP .
